One of my recent discoveries in Bath is The Chequers on Rivers Street, a stones throw away from the Royal Crescent and Victoria Park. After an energetic walk around the shops and back though the park, my dining companions and I had worked up quite an appetite!
I couldn’t resist ordering the pork while my friend Archie went for chicken – although I was very tempted by the thought of some tender roast beef!
And what a feast arrived! Juicy roast pork belly with huge roast potatoes, a soft Yorkshire pudding and a rich gravy.
Of course the best bit was the crispy crackling on the side with homemade apple sauce – I think I need to go back if only for the crackling!
Open every day from 12pm.
