Years ago The Boater was one of those pubs that didn’t really have to do much because crowds often frequented it before rugby matches. This meant very little effort was made to the interior and it was one of those places you would only really go to for the beer garden or pre/post rugby matches!
It’s now been given some much needed TLC inside and the wooden floors and leather seats make it feel a lot more upmarket. The cellar bar is really cosy with throw cushions – long gone are the days of furry leopard print seats and a Bath rugby mural! Even the bathrooms are styled now with cute little straw baskets for used paper towels – I love simple touches like this.
We went on a sunny evening so we chose to sit outside in the garden – and after a couple of ciders decided that it would be a good idea to order some nibbles. We ordered off the tapas menu so we could get 3 different plates for £15, perfect for sharing.
All of the plates also came with their own sauce which I thought was a nice touch so we chose:
- Salt & pepper squid with smoked paprika aioli
- Popcorn chicken with harissa mayonnaise
- Lamb kofta with tzatziki
Even though the pub is great in summertime, I’m also looking forward to autumn as the bar is really cosy (do you think they’ll let me on the leather sofas?!).
Open every day from 12pm.
