I am a big fan of The Stable, having frequented both the Bath and Newquay locations. In Newquay what could be better than tucking into a pizza and cider watching the sunset over Fistral Beach?
I love what they’ve done with the new location of the Bath Stable…the space is much better utilised and the sun streams in on a summer evening through the huge glass windows. I’m always given a warm welcome when I come in and with over 80 ciders to choose from I’m spoilt for choice!
I usually start with some garlic bread – cooked on a thin pizza base and dripping with delicious garlic butter, this is a true indulgence!
I love how the dishes give a nod to the local environment – pizzas in Bath use Bath Pig Co. Chorizo and have names like The Great Poultry Street, while in Newquay The Primrose Piggy is made with Cornish dry cured bacon and many ingredients are sourced locally.
Last night I decided to tuck into a classic favourite of mine – the Hock N’ Roll pie. Ham hock, mustard and peas in the most amazing pastry and served with thick cut wedges, a tangy tomato chutney, side salad and pickled onion (my dad ate my onion though – I’m not a fan!!). I was tempted by my dad’s Longhorn Jim pizza – a true meat feast with marinated beef, Bath Pig Co. Chorizo and west country ham (he doesn’t ‘do’ veg so held the mushrooms and red onions!).
One day I’ll save room for dessert….
